Thrifty Astronaut is the musical mind of Nick Jones, an 18 year old kid from Fort Collins, Colorado. Constructing his recordings on a reel-to-reel tape recorder, Jones amassed a strange collection of lo-fi pop songs to be released on his debut EP “Introducing Thrifty Astronaut(2009)”, and his full length album “Caffeine Heartache(2010)”. Often trashy and always cheap, the intimate bedroom recordings give a cheekily humorous look into Jones’ life. Toy keyboards, jangly guitars, drum machines, and tambourines populate self-deprecating songs about pretty girls with lip rings who only like boys who huff glue. His live show reproduces these meticulously layered arrangements through a loop pedal and home-made equipment. Often noted for his signature dance style and spastic stage-presence, Jones has carefully crafted his live performance in much the same manner as his album.
