Groove Yard was formed in 2009 by guitarist and songwriter Ryan Fourt, and includes Kelsey Shiba (vocals and keyboards), Matt Smiley (electric bass), and Ben Waters (drums). Ryan, known more as a first-call jazz guitarist in Ft. Collins and the front-range music community, began his pop and rock songwriting journey in 2006 and has since written a full slate of music for the band. Each member plays an important role in the overall sound of the group - vocalist Kelsey Shiba acts as the band's voice and front-man with her colorful interpretations of Fourt's melodies and lyrics. The band draws on a variety of influences but the element of imrovisation is present in almost everything they play. Each member is an accomplished jazz musician in their own right and bring those sensibilites to the bandstand during every Groove Yard performance. The band recently recorded a CD and hopes to have it released in the spring of 2011, this after a year long stint playing at Patrick's Irish Pub in Greeley developing the material and getting tighter as a group.
